The Salvation Army
‘Kubirri’ originates from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and means ‘good spirit’ or ‘protector’. TOTAL was awarded the contract for the Design and Construction of a new residential aged care home for The Salvation Army.
The Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre provides a 42 bed residential aged care development and associated administration services, chapel and café to the community of Mossman in Far North Queensland.
The home is divided into two communities, consisting of two houses each set apart by an operable wall. Each house opens to a landscaped courtyard from a covered outdoor seating area. These courtyards with viewing platforms from the lounge and dining areas are pivotal to the design and function of the home’s eco-system.
