Project Overview

This project comprised the design and construction a new 128 bed residential aged care facility and supporting infrastructure in the regional
town of Warwick on the Southern Darling Downs in Queensland. It is located on the site of the old Warwick drive-in cinema which was a point
of interest for some of the older locals. The resident facilities are located in two separate two-storey buildings connected by a lushly landscaped central communal area along with a welcome lounge, commercial kitchen, laundry, administration and back-of house areas. The design of the residential wings was based on Churches of Christ’s ‘Cottage Model’ which focuses on providing residents and visitors the feeling of a warm, homely environment.

In addition to the new residential facilities, the project also incorporated the construction of a new community centre housing a 450-person auditorium, café and children’s playground. The buildings were constructed using traditional reinforced concrete slabs and columns with a combination of block, brick and weatherboard external walls, metal framed internal walls and trussed roof frames. Solar hot water was also incorporated to reduce electrical demand.

Overall, the project has contributed to creating an integrated community, extending the established Regency Park Retirement Village and inviting local community groups and on-site residents to be a part of the community lifestyle through the use of the facilities.
