BlueCare Acacia Gardens
Project Description
The BlueCare Toowoomba Refurbishment project involved modernising 111 single resident units & bathrooms, along with shared common areas, community facilities & utility spaces. Additionally, an existing administration building was converted into a commercial kitchen & laundry to facilitate future expansion. Delivered over 9 stages, all whilst residents remained on-site. By sectioning off construction areas within each building, we efficiently conducted demolition, service installations and fit-out works according to an agreed-upon schedule. We coordinated staged service isolations with BlueCare Operations, with some shutdowns prompting enjoyable day trips for residents.
To meet BlueCare’s specific needs, our team self-performed structural carpentry, plastering, and bathroom fit-out works, managing numerous material deliveries within an active site. Daily labour and material assessments were conducted to prevent time and cost overruns.
Overcoming Challenges
Given Toowoomba’s regional location, material and labour availability posed challenges. To adhere to the schedule, we opted to source materials and labour locally, fostering new sub-contractor and client relationships in the areas.
Innovations
To minimise disruptions we engaged a specialist under-boring sub-contractor for installing upgraded electrical mains, reducing noise and damage to surrounding areas. These design initiatives aimed to streamline onsite processes and cut costs.
The project won the Master Builders’ Downs & Western Housing & Construction Awards in the Community Accommodation category 2025.
