Project Overview
Total Construction was awarded the project for the partial demolition and refurbishment of the existing old administration building including the addition of 8 new beds (3 bariatric). It also included the refurbishment of the dining hall, offices and staff rooms.
Overcoming Challenges
With all works undertaken to a tight timeframe and in an occupied environment, the team continually communicated with the staff of Martin Luther Homes to ensure the wellbeing of residents and staff was maintained. Working in an existing building with many unknowns also presented challenges with the joining of existing and new services.
Due to some works resulting in a change of the layout of the residence, the team developed a ‘way finding butterfly path’ to ensure residents could easily follow temporary pathways. The Department of Human Services were most complimentary of this solution.
We were able to deliver $75,000 worth of savings for the client during procurement of trades and resolution of provisional sums.
