Rocklea Remedial Works
Project Description
Total Construction completed the remediation of an industrial facility in Rocklea, QLD.
There was severe damage caused by foundation subsidence and failing glulam structural portals, which was worsened by a large hailstorm adding additional weight to the awning structure.
The works involved full replacement of the roof structure and supporting steelwork. Extensive temporary works and propping were required throughout to maintain stability of remaining building elements, including the full-height tilt panels, during demolition and reconstruction.
Works included full replacement of the glulam portal frames, installation of new roof sheeting, upgrade to access systems and completion of major civil remediation with screw piles being tied back to existing footings to stabilise the structure.
The team navigated several challenges, including structural discrepancies identified through as-built surveys and coordination issues between piling and panel clearances, requiring design adjustments.
A revised demolition methodology, supported by engineered propping and specialised equipment, improved safety outcomes, while offshore steel fabrication helped drive efficiency.
Tallying over 6,700 hours worked, the project was completed with 0 recordable safety incidents across a high-risk scope.
