Campbellfield Hardstand
Project Overview
Total Special Projects has successfully delivered a two-stage design and construction hardstand project for Centennial at Campbellfield VIC.
Stage 1 involved finalising design and securing permits for a 4,000m² cement-treated crushed rock hardstand to support truck movements and parking. Works also included new concrete areas, demolition of precast panels to create access points, a new roller door for deliveries and a 340m² structural steel awning at the rear of the factory.
Stage 2 involved the installation of a new fire sprinkler system, alongside upgrades to fire brigade access including the installation of a new fire tank and a prefabricated pump house.
Overcoming Challenges
The facility remained fully operational throughout works, with Centurion maintaining constant freight movements – a key factor in our staged planning and delivery approach.
Innovations
During construction, rock was discovered within the hardstand pavement. Our team collaborated closely with the client to value manage the situation: repurposing the rocks as a boundary feature around the hardstand area. This initiative not only mitigated additional disposal costs but also enhanced the visual appeal of the finished site.
While tender documentation originally specified a traditional blockwork pump house, our team collaborated closely with the client and fire contractor to opt for a prefabricated, weatherproof enclosure. This alternative reduced construction time and potential delays, with the fully assembled unit manufactured off-site and craned into place in a single lift.
A great outcome for all stakeholders and another example of smart, efficient project delivery by the Total Construction team.
