B & E Foods
Project Description
B&E Foods, a subsidy of MelCo Foods expanded to double their operations at their Blacktown site. This expansion required a significant extension to the current facility to accommodate.
TOTAL utilised porta frame and ISP cladding for offices to front of the extension. To satisfy fire regulations the new extension is physically separated by a fire tunnel to the existing facility with thoroughfares provided linking the operation.
The facility has a large preparation and cooking area with associated packaging. Frozen storage remains in the existing facility, with the new extension taking on the majority of food production.
Overcoming Challenges
As the site is a working facility the existing wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is critical to the facilities operations, the WWTP needed to be relocated and commissioned in its new location prior to any new foundation works taking place on the extension. The new location is within the new extensions’ footprint. TOTAL proposed to build the new WWTP as a stand alone build, and tie into the new substructure once the main extension was constructed.
Innovations
Although the project is a construct only, TOTAL was instrumental throughout the tendering process in providing the client with advice and value engineering options for the project.
