Construction of a new storage facility
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Total was engaged by Abacus Storage to deliver the construction of a new 2 storey storage facility and re-roof an existing storage building. The Storage King operated building is spread over 1,325m2 of total floor area and is is made up of 132 storage units. Vertical access to level 1 is via a people and goods hoist and internal stairs. 6 new car park spaces were added to the site plus a new concrete entrance to the overall site. New entrance and exit security gates were also added along with security fencing to the perimeter.
The building works involved demolishing an existing ground slab and installing new foundations. The building comprises of a concrete slab and structural steel frame. The external finish to the building is based on a variety of metal cladding and features an angled roof front façade. In line with Storage King’s Design requirements.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
All the works were completed whilst the existing facility remained operational. This required detailed safety panning, traffic control and diligent site management and ensured and incident free project.
The re-roof of the existing live building required detailed planning and diligent site management to ensure the safety and security of both the facility its content and its users.
To the satisfaction of Abacus and for Storage King to get the units rented early, the project was completed ahead of construction programme date for Practical Completion.
