Construction of a new Science building and new Year 7 building.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The construction of a new Science building and a new Year 7 building was completed in two stages:
Stage 1 – new Science building and new Year 7 building. Demolition of the existing structure to concrete slab level and reinstatement with the extension and new ablution block below. Construction of a new building at the end of the Science building with a lift and covered walkway to the Science building.
Stage 2 – new assembly area consisting of a new concrete hardstand, steps and soft landscaping areas. The construction of the new buildings was predominately structural concrete and steel with light gauge structural steel infill.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
The access and timing of the construction was critical. Due to the small site area, the number of activities required to deliver the project on time were compacted. Programming and subcontractor coordination were incorporated at an early stage.
