New two-storey Early Learning Centre and car park.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This was our first project with the Department of Education & Training. The scope comprised the construction of a new two-storey Early Learning Centre and car park.

The construction method was slab on ground on imported fill, structural steel portal frame and roof, with Colorbond cladding.

The work was carried out within operational school grounds and was carefully co-ordinated to not interrupt the schools’ day-to-day operations.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

The project required careful planning around the installation of retaining walls and civil works as site access became restricted once the site was cut into levels. We also overcame restricted delivery hours for heavy truck and plant so that traffic movement did not clash with the drop off and pick up times for the school. The co-ordination of concrete pours posed the greatest challenge.

INNOVATIONS

Innovations included an alternative laminated offer to the client which reduced both cost and manufacturing time frames.

Constant communication with the consultants was required to achieve cost-neutral outcomes to numerous design challenges while maintaining a high level of quality.
