Construction of a new two-storey early learning centre.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project comprised the construction of a new early learning centre. This was our second project with Bloom, having previously successfully delivered an Early Learning Centre in Glen Iris in 2007. At the time, we were also working on our third project with them in Malvern.

The demolition of an existing church building made way for the construction of a new two-storey centre that now includes five classroom areas on the first floor, accessed by both a lift and stairs, and ground floor with access to a creative outdoor play area with trafficable skylights.

The centre is mainly a precast panel erection with concrete floors and composite cladding.

Construction of ground floor parking facilities and landscaping works incorporating soft fall play areas and cubby houses to both the floors completed the works to the centre.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Initial works included the demolition of an existing church building to make way for the centre. Works to the existing church and vicarage were carried out concurrently; integrating construction works to ensure minimal disruption between the three separate building projects.

INNOVATIONS

Through the post-tender process and liaison with our key subcontractors, cost savings options were illustrated to the architect and client, including alternative mechanical and electrical scopes.
