Design and construction of the extension and alterations to an existing Bunnings store

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

To expedite construction and minimise interruptions, this project was divided into four separable portions:

Stage 1 – construction of a new extension to the existing store for a new timber trade sales and material year;
Stage 2 – construction of a new awning to nursery area;
Stage 3 – modifications and upgrade works to the existing store including a new goods receivable area, installation of new evaporative cooling system, sprinkler upgrade and relocation of existing distribution boards; and
Stage 4 – painting to the external facades, landscaping and line marking to car park area.

The store now has an additional 13,000sqm floor space inside as well as another 1,388sqm of outdoor timber yard outside.

The store complies with the latest fire engineering solutions being put forward by the appointed Fire Engineer, Norman Disney and Young, who was novated as part of the contract.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

One of the major challenges experienced was co-ordinating the overhead works. The majority of the upgrade works needed to occur when the store was closed to the public. By working with the client, we established an efficient work sequence which allowed the works to be carried out during quieter operating hours and with minimal disruption.
