Construction of a new lift shaft and lift installation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total has installed a new lift at BlueCare’s Kirrahaven facility in Coolangatta.

The project comprised the construction of a core filled blockwork lift shaft and lift installation to tie into the existing walkways between Block A and Block B. Work began with demolition of the existing wall sections and windows on the walkway to allow access to the new lift shaft.

New lighting and windows have also been provided to areas around the newly constructed lift entries.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

The primary challenge was carrying out construction and demolition works in a fully functioning live facility. The existing walkway is a high traffic area with the kitchen on one side and the dining room on the other, therefore food trolleys are rolled back and forth multiple times a day. This was overcome by using good site safety, programming and an appropriate hoarding system.

Total has aimed to reduce construction timeframe as much as possible in such a short program to minimise disturbances for the client.

This was our sixth project with BlueCare.
