R U OK & Mates In Construction
Thursday we came together across construction sites in NSW, Victoria and Queensland for a BBQ lunch, to ‘Fly the Flag’, share a KitKat (or two), have some good conversations and we made sure to ask, “RU OK, Mate?”
By backing critical initiatives driven by MATES in Construction and R U OK? two leading suicide prevention charities, we’re helping raise awareness around mental health, encouraging open conversations, lightening the mental load and strengthening connections on our worksites.
The statistics remain alarming: Mates in Construction reports that construction workers are six times more likely to die by suicide than by an accident at work, with one construction worker lost to suicide every second day in Australia (www.mates.org.au).
At TOTAL, we are committed to fostering a workplace culture where asking for help is not just accepted but actively encouraged and seen as the norm.
Remember, it doesn’t take a special event to check in on a friend or work mate. If you notice someone struggling, don’t wait—start the conversation with a simple “How are you going?” or “RU OK, Mate?”. Ask today and any day.
