A New Residential Aged Care Home for the Northern Beaches

Total Construction has completed the construction of a new residential aged care wing and refurbishment of the existing facility at Alexander Aged Care in Brookvale, NSW.

Total Construction was engaged by the Armenian Rest Home Association to complete the demolition of the existing 12-bed Independent Living Unit development, making way for the development of the new Spitak Wing, and minor refurbishments to the existing building.

The new Spitak Wing spans across three levels, providing an additional 19 bedrooms as well as a hair salon, recreation room, staff and storerooms, amenities, shared lounge and dining room.

Key Features & Innovations

The project features a concrete framed structure with structural steel framing used for the roof, external masonry finishes and CFC cladding. There were also upgrades to the courtyard, garden areas and main entry awnings, offering a more enjoyable outdoor experience for residents.

Internal developments include metal framed plasterboard to internal walls, high-quality joinery finishes in resident rooms and common areas, and a thoughtful combination of carpet and vinyl floor coverings.

The team also completed upgrades to the Fire Hydrant Service, with the installation of a new dedicated Hydrant Booster Pump located in an existing storeroom of the main building.

Working in a Live Aged Care Environment

The continued safety and care of residents was our greatest priority throughout the build. The team worked diligently and carefully to complete the project adjacent to a live operating environment.

A tower crane was utilised to handle materials during the structural build, allowing residents, staff and visitors to have continued access to the facility’s main entry and car park area.

Modifications of the existing Main Switchboard were also coordinated with the aged care staff and completed efficiently, minimising the disruption to the existing facility’s ongoing operations.

Well done to the team for your excellence in safety and delivery – Project Manager David Gilmour, Site Manager Tony Andrews, Contracts Administrator George Joukhador, Apprentice Carpenter to Leading Hand Jason Lyne.
