Groundbreaking at Ashfield Baptist Homes' ‘The Cunningham’ Retirement Living
Groundbreaking and Smoking Ceremony
Total Construction was proud to join Ashfield Baptist Homes (ABH), project partners and stakeholders to celebrate the groundbreaking of The Cunningham, marking the commencement of this significant retirement living development in Sydney’s Inner West.
The ceremony marks the beginning of construction on a project that has been years in the making and reflects the dedication, collaboration and perseverance of everyone involved.
A special thank you to Brendan Kerin for delivering a meaningful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, and to all stakeholders who have contributed to reaching this important milestone.
A Long Journey To Construction
The Cunningham has undergone an extensive planning and development process over many years. The project’s first Development Application was lodged in 2013, followed by several design refinements and planning modifications up until this year.
Throughout that time, the project navigated multiple design iterations, technical considerations and ground-related challenges, ultimately resulting in a significantly improved design outcome that better supports the future needs of ‘The Cunningham’ and its residents.
Total Construction first became involved more than two years ago and has worked closely with ABH and EPM Projects under a preferred contractor arrangement. This collaborative approach has enabled the project team to align the design with the client’s vision, operational requirements and budget objectives while progressing the project through key planning and approval milestones.
Our team has also worked diligently to secure the necessary Construction Certificates and statutory approvals, coordinating with Inner West Council, Sydney Water and other authorities to prepare the project for construction.
Shared Vision and Purpose
In each of our projects, Total Construction is driven by our purpose in making a positive difference in people’s lives through excellence in construction. One of the core pillars of this project’s collaborative outcome has been the strong alignment between our values and purpose with Ashfield Baptist Homes.
For more than 75 years, Ashfield Baptist Homes has been dedicated to providing high-quality aged care and support to the Inner West community. Their mission of making a positive difference in people’s lives through quality care closely aligns with our purpose.
This shared vision has created a strong foundation for collaboration from the earliest stages of the project. When project teams are united by common values and a shared purpose, it creates stronger partnerships, better decision-making and ultimately better outcomes for clients and communities. This alignment has been instrumental in navigating challenges and progressing the project towards construction.
Building a Lasting Community Legacy
We’re proud to be part of a project that is more than just a building. It is about creating a place that will support older members of the community, foster connection and wellbeing, and provide a high-quality living environment for residents and their families.
Over the coming year, our team will continue working closely with Ashfield Baptist Homes, EPM Projects and architects Bennett Murada to deliver a facility that reflects the high standards and values of each partner.
We are committed to achieving excellence in delivery, maintaining safety, minimising disruption to the neighbouring residences and Ashfield Baptist Homes’ existing aged care facility, and ensuring the project leaves a lasting positive legacy for the community.
We thank everyone who has contributed to reaching this important milestone and look forward to delivering this exciting landmark retirement living facility in Sydney’s Inner West.
