Project Specifications
2 Level GLA Building with 12 Classrooms, Amenities, Outdoor Learning & Breakout Area
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Total Construction was awarded the contract to construct a new General Learning Area and associated works at Warrigal Road State School.
The General Learning Area, or GLA, building comprises a concrete, block and steel structure, aluminium and glass façade with Colorbond roof. The works included enhancement of the existing power supply to a 1500kVA transformer on Warrigal Road with a new MSB, communications and security upgrades. Upgrade works have been coordinated with the school over the holidays to ensure safe and timely completion within term 2, May 2021.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
Access to the site was only available through the school and the added interaction with school poses risk from a safety and programming perspective. The team was able to overcome this by successfully negotiating access with BCC to enter via nearby Karhula Park.
The work scope required Total to upgrade the existing pole supply to a 1500kVA PMT allowing the added capacity needed for the GLA building and provision for air-conditioning upgrades to the school in 2021. The works have been coordinated to occur in Christmas holidays to minimise disruption of classes.
INNOVATIONS
We have used steel roof framing rather than timber truss to expedite program.
