Construction of a 42 bed aged care facility

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total was awarded the contract for the Design & Construct of a new residential aged care facility for The Salvation Army.

The Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre provides a 42 bed residential aged care development and associated administration services, chapel and café to the community of Mossman in far north Queensland.

The facility is divided into two wings, consisting of two houses each divided by an operable wall. Each house will open to a landscaped courtyard from a covered outdoor seating area. These courtyards with viewing platforms from the lounge and dining areas are pivotal to the design and function of the accommodation wings.

The word Kubirri originates from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and means ‘good spirit’ or ‘protector’.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

We have engaged a number of trades through Early Contractor Involvement to ensure good trade and contractor coverage for the build.

Taking responsibility for a building 80% designed prior to engagement has meant a full internal review by team members and overlaying of drawings.
