Project Specifications
Construction of 5 new single storey buildings over previously demolished facilities
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Total Construction was awarded the contract to construct 5 new single storey Aged Care buildings.
The scope of works includes;
- Minor excavation works and ground preparations for conventional waffle pod slab construction
- Designing and constructing a metal truss system to be used as the buildings primary structure
- Installing the essential services and roof structure
- Installing pathways and surrounding landscape
Each building has been created with different style doors, colour schemes and fencing to allow the dementia occupants to distinguish between rooms.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
This project was completed within a live environment which had the potential to cause disruptions to the surrounding facilities. During construction, over 200 patients were housed in the surrounding areas which affects any shutdowns to gas, water or electricity. Concrete pours and high noise activities had to be reported to the client 14 days in advance to ensure minimum patient disturbance.
INNOVATIONS
Significant cost savings were made on the project by using a metal truss system rather than the originally proposed conventional timber frame system.
