Interior refurbishments of 4 aged care facilities

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Care was awarded the contract for the interior refurbishment of four Doutta Galla aged care facilities located at Kensington, Avondale Heights, Grantham Green and Sunshine.

The scope includes the refurbishment of communal living areas, residents rooms, commercial kitchens and the relocation of staff stations. Some of the new communal areas comprise of café facilities and a new hairdressing salon at Avondale Heights. The dementia wing here also is having the dining room extended to increase the seating area.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

As the facilities are all operational, forward planning and programming were critical to the success of the renovations. Two bedrooms were renovated concurrently and are required to be turned around in 12 working days which was a challenge considering that many of the ensuite bathrooms were affected by water damage from intferior building methods and general considerable wear and tear.

INNOVATIONS

Our team delt with incomplete project documentation and managed the design and construct process with BCA and aged care design principles. The commercial kitchen at Lynches Bridge was progressively let as the documentation became available and in some cases we had service trades starting knowing what the standards required and relaying this back to the consultant team for them to formally document. We assisted with creating a temporary mobile kitchen so that mealtimes were not compromised. The staff involved work tirelessly to get the new kitchen over the line before Christmas.
