Construction of a new 140 room aged care facility.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction was delighted to have been awarded a third project with McKenzie Aged Care. This project is positioned high up on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Buderim.

The new facility will spread across three floors. The lower ground floor will accommodate the facilities support services and will incorporate the main kitchen, laundry, maintenance, staff amenities and administration offices. The ground floor is made up of 67 individual rooms, main entry, dining and resident lounges. Level one is repeated with 73 rooms with support facilities.

The construction for the structure has been completed by Dincel walls and block work which is lighter than the two previous McKenzie projects where pre-cast concrete was extensively used.

The exterior of the complex is fully landscaped and also incorporates existing established trees which have been protected during construction.

INNOVATIONS

Total Construction has found a number of design changes that will benefit timing and costs including:

  • Removal of non-load bearing block walls in basement to light weight stud frame
  • Moving walls on upper floors to align lower walls which removes the need for columns and complicated beams
  • Reducing the height of filled roads to reduce the height of retaining walls
