Design and construction of a new food preparation facility.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction was awarded an exciting project with Alpha Flight Services for the design and construction of a 1500m2 stand-alone facility on airport land in Cairns.

The building was built on reclaimed swamp land and has been designed to sit on large pad footings. The internal area comprises an office area and food preparation area constructed from cool room panel walls and ceiling to maintain the correct temperature required for food preparation.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

One of the biggest challenges with this project was the tight program and difficult weather conditions in Cairns. The construction of the roof was a priority as a large amount of rain was expected throughout the construction. We had to use different building techniques to ensure the construction of the building continued to program.

INNOVATIONS

Due to the excessive heat in Far North Queensland, Total paid special attention to the cold room panel design to ensure no condensation occurred when the building became operational.
