Project Specifications
Landscaping to an existing childcare centre and construction of a new car park
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The scope of work for the Swallow Street Childcare project comprises the construction of outdoor play facilities around the existing childcare centre and the construction of a new car park for both staff and parents. A number of smaller structures are included in the play facilities including sheds (both stand alone and tied into the existing buildings), fencing, prefabricated play equipment and concrete slabs.
The concrete car park located at the front of site will be run concurrently to the other works on and will be handed over as a separable portion to the rest of the project.
Upon commencement of works Total was also notified of the requirement to carry out a QUU sewer diversion as a variation to the contract works. This diversion is required to run over a large distance through the neighbouring Queensland TAFE car park.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
The primary challenge experienced during the project is working around a live childcare centre and sequencing works to always maintain the minimum required outdoor play area for the children to utilise.
This will be achieved through careful planning and layout of the non-climbable site hoarding.
INNOVATIONS
The reduced timeframe in delivery of the car park as a separable portion has greatly assisted the facility with access to the existing childcare.
