Extension to the existing renal facility at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction was engaged by Health Infrastructure to work with Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. The hospital was undergoing a major upgrade. As part of this upgrade, Total extended the existing renal facility to cope with additional demand expected in the coming years.

The new addition was constructed next to the existing facility which remained operational throughout the build. Once the new building was constructed, Total interconnected the two structures. In addition, five rooms in the existing renal facility were renovated.

The building is a metal clad, steel framed structure. It was chosen by the client as an economical building system as it is expected the building will be replaced in the future with a fully upgraded facility.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

The hospital and existing renal facility remained fully operational during construction. Critical to the success of the project was the ability to ensure continuity of services to the building. Where necessary, services were changed over or upgraded after hours.
