Construction of 19 supported living tenancies and associated facilities

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction were awarded the contract for the redevelopment of the existing Taverners Hill Hotel and creation of 19 supported living tenancies with separate kitchen, laundry, communal and retail spaces.

Total Construction undertook Design and Construct responsibility on this project as the design process was ever changing. Construction involved the addition of a new rear extension to the building and middle section where a dilapidated first floor timber balcony had to be removed.

Construction involved new concrete structure with conventional steel and timber thereafter. The new build included the construction of a new fire access / egress stair and passenger lift.

Being a significantly old building constructed of mainly masonry and timber, fire and acoustic rating compliance was paramount.

Located within a busy inner city location on Parramatta Road, heavy consideration needed to be made to manage working within the site, co-ordination of deliveries and movements in and out of site and working within the relevant authority rules and regulations such as Leichhardt Council; RMS etc.

Vigilant supervision of compliance with fire; acoustic; BCA and DDA codes were essential as the old and fire susceptible nature of the building needed to be protected.
