Project Specifications
Upgrade/expansion to the existing Tri-Generation Plant.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Grid-X Trunkline Project involved the upgrade/expansion of the existing Tri-Generation (TG1) building, installation of a new trunkmain for chilled water and hot water piping, along with a high voltage ring main to a new customer, the Andary Hotel.
The works to the existing TG1 building involved the supply and installation of new pumps, hot water boiler, cooling towers and associated LV/HV works and piping.
The trunkline is approximately 320m long and involved crossing a Sydney Water easement.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
Challenges included ensuring that Qantas, as a key stakeholder, did not experience disruptions in moving pilots and staff from its headquarters to the airport. Total implemented a Traffic Management Plan and Site Establishment plan that resulted in little to no disruption. Certain works were completed overnight.
Another challenge was directional drilling for the piping and cabling installation. The ground was sand and the water table was tidal, resulting in difficult conditions. All in-ground works were completed successfully.
