Detailed Design & Cost Planning

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Works included the detailed design and cost planning of 1.8MW steam turbine on-site power generation system for the site.

Total undertook the concept design in July 2017, then progressed to a preliminary design in November 2017. In February 2018, Total was further engaged to complete the detailed design. We developed process engineering documentation and 3D model for the entire power station for the client. Total obtained pricing from equipment suppliers and trades in order to arrive at a budget for board approval.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Integration with the existing site electrical infrastructure proved challenging since the power plant requires additional power to actually run, which will trigger an upgrade to the supply network. This was overcome by re-designing the transformer arrangement in order to cater for the new system.

INNOVATIONS

The project itself is qualified as ‘renewable electricity’ since the steam is produced using saw dust. It will provide environmental benefits to Bega and the community.
