Alterations and fire upgrade works

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction was engaged to refurbish the existing aged care facility to accommodate 26 additional beds, a new staff room, two covered courtyards, a pergola, new landscaping, as well as fire sprinkler upgrades.

The works comprise:

  • demolition of structural and non-structural masonry walls
  • construction of new cavity brick walls with aluminium windows and auto doors
  • new internal metal framed walls, linings and ceilings with metal doors, frames and hardware
  • new services including wet and dry fire services, electrical, nurse call and mechanical works

Material finishes will include vinyl floor coverings on all new areas and a combination of structural steel timber trusses with metal deck roof for the two covered courtyards and pergola.

The architect is Boffa Robertson Group who we have worked with previously on numerous aged care projects.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Communication with the facility management is crucial in managing this 6 stage project to ensure the smooth transition of resident relocations as well as detailed planning with subcontractors during the fire sprinkler upgrades.
