Construction of Community Care Units and Support Building

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This contract was for the construction of 5 Community Care Units and a Community Support Building for the Department of Health & Human Services.

The scope comprised the demolition of existing buildings and the removal of in-ground services to make way for the construction of 5 single level unit and a Community Support Building.

The units are a mix of one and two bedrooms with a kitchenette and ensuite bathroom. The units can be used for multiple occupancy if required, in configurations of a one, two or three bedroomed layout, working around the kitchens to suit.

The units have been constructed using timber framing and metal cladding. Saw tooth roofing is coupled with automated highlight windows to make the most of natural lighting.

The Community Support Building provides a communal client common room, children’s play area, an art therapy room, kitchen and laundry facilities, meeting room and accommodation for a full-time on site carer.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Working with the client and architect through the design phrase illustrated that the project was over budget. Total were able to assist through redesign and the nomination of alternative materials and methodologies to bring the project under budget without compromising quality.
