Construction of a new store and landscaping works.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project comprised construction of a new 1200m² retail shop and 110 space car spaces in an existing car park and paddock, located to the rear of the Commercial Hotel on Plenty Road in South Morang.

Extensive quantities of structured fill were brought in to raise the levels of the existing site with the building structure founded on strip/pad footings with precast concrete wall panels and a Kingspan roof.

A large plant platform is positioned on the roof with all mechanical and refrigeration plant. A polished concrete infill slab gives the shop a modern feel with exposed aggregate which is a Dan Murphy’s trade mark.

The back of house areas to the shop include a lunch room, kitchen, toilets, cool room, stock room, loading dock and services room.

The front of the shop features a large Alucobond tower and a timber-slat ceiling grid above the front end and registers.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

A significant challenge included bringing a large amount of structured fill into the site to raise the levels in the existing car park and paddock. This became the base for the new store. The long lead times over the Christmas and New Year’s period were also a challenge with specialist trades and materials.
