Construction of new split level Child Care Facility with on-site car parking
Total Construction has been awarded the contract for the construction of a new Child Care Facility in Para Road, Montmorency. This is our first project with the client, but our second with Insite Architects.
The project comprises the construction of a new split level Child Care Facility with on-site car parking, which will involve extensive cut and fill earthworks and battering to cater for the extensive retaining walls required due to the high level of fall across the property.
The construction will be slab on-ground followed by a combination of structural steel framing and structural timber framing with metal roof decking and multiple façade finishes.
The internal fit-out includes for feature timber ceilings and acoustic treatments, child care specific built-in joinery and feature floor finishes.
Extensive hard and soft landscaping with play equipment for children completes the Facility.
The main challenge the project faces is the construction and backfilling behind extensive retaining walls. Due to the site having a significant amount of fall from the front to the rear of the property, there are multiple locations where the site is both cut and fill – in order to achieve this, extensive use of battering and back filling will be required, before construction of the building slab.
This can be over-come by not using clean fill as backfilling material and using a stabilised material that does not require rolling and compaction to achieve stability, where labour savings can be achieved.
