Alterations and additions to existing facility.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Total Construction was awarded the Construction Management contract for the alteration and addition works at Walgett Hospital. We were also responsible for the finalisation of the design, construction and handover.

Design consultants were engaged to complete the works on behalf of the client and conduct User Group Meetings with the local area health staff and client representatives.

The works comprised internal reconfiguration of Building D which houses some of the clinical operations of the Multi-Purpose Service (MPS). Alterations included the refurbishment of the staff room, sterile stock room, close observation rooms and assessment bays, a new waiting area, airlock and extended staff station, and interview and medication rooms.

Relocation of the existing ambulance bay structure, replacement of the main entry door to the aged care facility, and replacement of major mechanical plant were also included in the works.

A small amount of civil works included an ambulance turning-circle where the new ambulance bay is now located.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Procurement of trades required careful management due to the remote location of the site.
